JEA Receives Statewide Recognition for Programs that Enhance the Community
JEA received a “Building Strong Communities” award from the Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) for making valuable investments that enhance the quality of life for the Jacksonville community. FMEA presented the award on Nov. 12 at its Energy Connections Conference & Trade Show in Daytona Beach.
FMEA recognized JEA and other public power utilities for programs and projects that strengthen the communities in which they serve beyond efficient delivery of affordable, reliable and clean energy.
“We are honored to be recognized for all that JEA does to improve lives and build community in Northeast Florida,” JEA CEO and Managing Director Vickie Cavey said. “As a public power utility, our team members work to support and serve our customers day in and day out.”
JEA received recognition for the following community initiatives in the past year:
- Power Pals, a three-week program taught by trained JEA employees. The program reaches first-grade students about electric safety through fun and interactive activities.
- Senior Day at JEA, a monthly event providing vulnerable senior customers with access to the financial resources they need to pay their utility bills.
- JEA Education Program, a partnership with the Duval County Public School system to provide free educational resources to K-8 students.
- JEA College Internships, providing high school and college students a wide variety of internship and mentoring programs.
- JEA Robotics Program, a partnership with Renaissance Jax/FIRST Robotics, a local non-profit organization dedicated to cultivating engineering students through FIRST Robotics and STEM education.
- JEA Volunteer Program, contributing volunteer resources to non-profit organizations that help improve the quality of life in Jacksonville.
- JEA Season of Giving Employee Campaign, fundraising activities to support local United Way and Creating Healthier Charities agencies.
“Florida’s public power utilities not only serve their communities, but they also help create a sense of community. Whether that’s inviting residents out for movies in the park to hanging holiday decorations to gathering items for a food drive, our utilities and their employees want their communities to be the best they possibly can because they live there, too,” FMEA Executive Director Amy Zubaly said.
JEA joins 19 other Florida public power communities in receiving this FMEA award. Florida’s 3 3public power utilities combined are the third largest electric provider in the state, serving 14 percent of Florida customers. Florida’s public power utilities serve more than 3 million Floridians and are a statewide employment leader with more than 5,700 employees. Here in Northeast Florida, JEA serves more than a million customers and employs more than 2,200 team members.
