A joint legislative committee Monday approved Walt Trierweiler to serve another four years as state public counsel, a job that represents consumers in utility issues. The Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight approved Trierweiler to serve a four-year term. Trierweiler, who previously worked as an attorney at the Florida Public Service Commission, was initially chosen in 2023 to serve as public counsel after former Public Counsel Richard Gentry submitted his resignation. Gentry, R-Astor, was elected last year to the House. Trierweiler’s office represents consumers at the Public Service Commission. “As public counsel, I will continue to pursue positive outcomes for Florida’s (utility) customers, and that’s residential, commercial, industrial,” Trierweiler told the committee. Trierweiler’s term was scheduled to expire Feb. 28. Sen. Jennifer Bradley, a Fleming Island Republican who is alternating chairwoman of the legislative committee, said it also received two other applications for the public-counsel post, but Trierweiler was the only applicant who met requirements.
