FPUA Receives Statewide Recognition for Community Programs
The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) recently recognized Fort Pierce Utilities Authority with a “Building Strong Communities” award for making valuable investments that enhance the quality of life in our community, beyond efficient delivery of affordable, reliable, and clean energy.
FMEA recognized public power utilities for programs and projects that provide community education, collect charitable donations, improve the environment, focus on crime prevention and other special programs that strengthen the communities in which they serve, such as restoring seagrass, taking part in festivals and volunteer days, parades and holiday celebrations, hosting blood drives, and facilitating employee food drives.
Year-round the FPUA team is dedicated to giving back to the Fort Pierce community by:
- Engaging 54,320 community members at festivals and events
- Volunteering 1,000 hours in the Fort Pierce Community
- Restoring 1.5 acres of native seagrass in our local waterways
- Collecting 8,000 pounds of litter and trash during community clean-up events
- Donating nearly 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food through department giving;
- Donating 12 gallons of blood through bi-monthly employee blood drives
- And so much more
“Florida’s public power utilities not only serve their communities, but they also help create a sense of community. Whether that’s inviting residents out for movies in the park to hanging holiday decorations to gathering items for a food drive, our utilities and their employees want their communities to be the best they possibly can because they live there, too,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “We applaud each of these utilities, including Fort Pierce Utilities Authority, and their employees for all their efforts to support and strengthen their communities.”
FPUA was announced as an award recipient on November 12 at the FMEA Energy Connections Conference and Trade Show in Daytona Beach. FPUA joins 20 other community-owned Florida public power communities in receiving this award.
Florida’s 33 public power utilities, combined, are the third largest electric provider in the state, serving 14 percent of Florida’s customers. Florida’s public power utilities serve more than 3 million Floridians and are a statewide employment leader with more than 5,700 employees.
Here in Fort Pierce, FPUA has over 265 employees and serves nearly 71,000 business and residential customers with utility services consisting of direct natural gas, electric, water/wastewater and fiber internet through FPUAnet. For over 52 years, FPUA has made it possible for residents of Fort Pierce to own and control its energy future while receiving affordable, reliable and economical utility services.
