The Florida Municipal Electric Association Presents Building Strong Communities Awards

The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) recently honored 13 municipal electric utilities with its 2018 Building Strong Communities Award, recognizing each utility for its commitment to enhancing the quality of life in their community.

Presented with the awards during FMEA’s annual Energy Connections Conference and Trade Show on October 24, winners were selected for community improvement programs that included: volunteering activities, science fairs, community festivals, education and awareness programs, charitable support of local nonprofits serving community members in need, energy efficiency customer rebate programs and electric safety expos.

“Being a part of the community is about more than making sure the lights are on,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “The recipients of the 2018 FMEA Building Strong Communities Awards excel in not only taking an interest in seeing their communities succeed, but also actively working toward making them better places to live and building strong communities.”

Recipients of the 2018 FMEA Building Strong Communities Award are: Beaches Energy Services, City of Bushnell, City of Clewiston , City of Leesburg, City of Newberry, City of Tallahassee, City of Winter Park, Gainesville Regional Utilities, Keys Energy Services, Kissimmee Utility Authority, Lakeland Electric, Ocala Electric Utility, Orlando Utilities Commission.
