FMEA Statement Regarding Power Restoration Following Hurricane Helene
STATEMENT BY:
Amy Zubaly, Executive Director, Florida Municipal Electric Association
“Dangerous Hurricane Helene made landfall along Florida’s Big Bend as a strong Category 4 hurricane around 11 p.m. Thursday night. Well before landfall, Florida communities began experiencing impacts from the storm, including significant storm surge and power outages. Crews across Florida began work yesterday and overnight to clear roads and restore power. With the help of mutual aid partners from 10 states, that work will continue until every last Florida public power customer is restored.
Florida public power utilities have restored more than 200,000 customers by 6 a.m. this morning. As of 9 a.m. nearly 1.2 million Floridians were without power including 235,839 served by public power.
Crews will work quickly and safely to continue assessing damage and bring the power back for all customers.”
