Ground Rod Specialist - OUC

We are seeking a safety-conscious, detail-oriented professional to play a crucial role in ensuring the proper installation of grounding rods and conductors throughout our service territory. In this role, you will coordinate with Construction Coordinators at Pershing, Gardenia, and St. Cloud, and be responsible for installing ground rods for transformers or switchgear using specialized equipment, performing cad-weld electrical connections, and working safely near energized equipment. Additionally, you will prioritize your work assignments while providing essential support to our crews and Division activities.

Choose between a flexible work schedule of four 10-hour days (Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday) or five 8-hour days, with weekends off. The ideal candidate will have:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a construction related field in the utility industry;
- Class A CDL License within one year of hire
- Training completed within six (6) months of hire, including:
- Complete Ground-rod training module
- Reading electric construction maps
- Hydraulic equipment operation
- Valid Florida Driver’s license

Salary Range: Starting at $28.97 per hour (Estimated $60,313 annually) with a structured step progression system and performance-based pay increases every 6 months up to $33.58 (Estimated $69,860 annually)

Job Purpose:
Responsible for field installation of grounding rods and conductors used for grounding distribution and transmission equipment throughout the OUC service territory. Works in close proximity to energized equipment in an independent environment that requires electric map reading and work organization skills. Supports crews and Division activities in completion of assigned tasks.
Primary Functions:
- Install ground rods using either truck or portable ground rod driving equipment as work area requires for electrical grounding;
- Safely work in an independent environment while in close proximity to energized equipment;
- Perform cad-weld electrical connections between conductors and grounding rods;
- Stock vehicle and assist in pulling and loading materials from warehouse;
- Travel to worksites to complete ground rod installations;
- Perform intake of ground rod service requests to prioritize work assignments between OUC and Pike ground rod truck;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements:
- Working knowledge of all, but not limited to the following:
- Engineering Drawings;
- Multi-meter impedance testing;
- Arc Reader mapping software
- Time Sheets;
- Construction and maintenance work in the utility industry;
- Use of materials, equipment, and utility industry work methods;
- Electrical or mechanical systems;
- Familiarity with, but not limited to, the following:
- Use of the following equipment:
- Trucks (e.g. ground rod truck);
- Hydraulic equipment (Rear lot ground rod driver);
- Mechanical tools/devices associated with utility industry work;
- Ability to:
- General mechanical skills and ability;
- Read and understand mechanical and structural drawings;
- Adopt and adhere to OUC safe work practices;
- Effectively communicate verbally and electronically (e-mail)
- Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).
Education/ Certification/ Years of Experience Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a construction related field in the utility industry;
- Class A CDL License within one year of hire;
- Trainings to be completed within three (3) months of hire:
- Complete and pass training class for hazards and glove certification;
- Complete Ground-rod training module;
- Reading electric construction maps;
- Hydraulic equipment operation.
Working Conditions:
This job involves constant working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to loud noises, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, work with explosives, vibration, exposure to blood borne pathogens, and insects.
Physical Requirements:
This job requires constant detailed inspection/reading/English, speaking & hearing, writing, standing, walking, sitting, lifting up to 20 lbs, bending/stooping, pushing and/or pulling, digging, assembly or handling of parts within arm’s length, kneeling and/or crawling, and repetitive motions. This job requires very frequent operation of a company vehicle (Ground rod truck).
