Class Overview

This two-and-a-half-day class is designed to give participants with no electrical background an in-depth understanding of electric utility operations, and serves as a review for participants familiar with electrical systems in today’s electric utility.

As the world becomes more technologically advanced, those employees who are able to communicate on both a technical and non-technical level will be those who excel. The better an employee understands the utility’s operations and the reliable delivery of electrical energy, the better the employee can serve the utility. This class provides that understanding.

Any electric utility industry employee (utility or vendor) including those in engineering, operations, safety, purchasing, information technology, regulatory and rates, customer service, public relations, legal, accounting, as well as utility commissioners and board members, will benefit and gain a better understanding of electric utility operations by attending this class.

About the Instructor

A.R. “Skip” Collier, Professional Training Systems, Portland, Oregon

Skip has a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Nevada at Reno, and an MBA from Portland State University. He worked for 12 years as a field engineer, field-engineering supervisor and construction project manager at General Electric Company. The EUSO class was developed to provide utility employees with a thorough understanding of the operations of an electric utility. The goal was to develop a course that could explain the electrical world to utility employees without complex mathematics. This goal has been realized and more than 17,000 utility employees throughout the United States and Canada have attended this training program.
