Organization Overview
Who We Are
Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) is a wholesale power agency owned by municipal electric utilities in Florida. FMPA’s mission is to provide low-cost, reliable and clean power, plus value-added services for FMPA’s owner-customers that benefit their communities and customers.
What We Do
Florida has more than 30 municipal electric utilities located around the state. Municipal utilities are individually owned and operated by the cities they serve. By working together through FMPA, the cities can enhance their operations for the benefit of their customers. FMPA’s primary purpose is to create joint power supply resources, such as power plant ownerships. In addition, the cities work together on a variety of joint efforts to enhance the cost, reliability and operations of their electric systems.
Why We Do It
Electricity is essential for living, particularly in Florida where power use is higher than the national average and income is lower than average. Statistics show that for nearly one in three residents of our state, electricity is a significant monthly expense.
Because of this, people are counting on FMPA’s member cities to provide low-cost, reliable power. And FMPA plays a key role in supporting our cities in this effort.
